Every December, the snow-covered mountains of Arosa welcome more than just skiers and snowboarders. For eleven days, they also echo with laughter, applause, and the warmth of shared humour. The Arosa Humor Festival transforms a mountain hut high above the village into Switzerland’s most distinctive comedy stage, where guests enjoy top-class performances surrounded by winter’s beauty.
Event Overview
Dates: 3 to 14 December 2025
Now in its 34th edition, the Arosa Humor Festival is Switzerland’s largest comedy and cabaret event. Staged in a heated circus tent beside the Tschuggenhütte at 2,000 metres above sea level, the festival blends world-class entertainment with the charm of a snowy alpine backdrop. Founded in 1992, it has grown into a cultural highlight that attracts both Swiss and international artists, from stand-up comedians to musical cabaret acts.
What to Expect
Over the course of eleven days, visitors can see an eclectic mix of performances including Swiss satire, witty stand-up, physical comedy, and musical humour. Shows run in the afternoons and evenings, creating the perfect excuse to spend the morning on the slopes before heading up for an afternoon of laughter. The heated tent keeps audiences comfortable even in sub-zero temperatures, while the snowy setting outside adds a festive touch.
Insider Tips for Visitors
- Book early as popular shows often sell out weeks in advance
- Midweek performances are usually less busy than weekend ones
- Dress warmly with winter boots and gloves for the journey up
- Arrive early to enjoy a drink or snack at the Tschuggenhütte before the show starts
- Check lift updates before heading out in case of weather changes
Combine with Other Activities in Arosa
The Humor Festival is easy to pair with other winter highlights. Ski or snowboard in the morning and then swap your helmet for a ticket to an afternoon show. Non-skiers can enjoy winter hiking routes to nearby viewpoints or relax in the hotel’s wellness area before an evening performance. After the show, you can sledge back down into the village or take the gondola, making the journey part of the fun.

How to Get There from Hotel Altein
From Hotel Altein, it is about a ten-minute walk to the Arosa–Weisshorn valley station in the village centre. Exit the hotel, turn right, and follow the main road, Poststrasse, downhill towards the Obersee lake. The gondola station is on the left before the lake. Take the Weisshorn gondola to the Tschuggen mid-station. The ride takes roughly five minutes and offers panoramic mountain views. From the mid-station, it is a short walk to the Tschuggenhütte and the festival tent. For a more adventurous return, rent a sledge and ride the illuminated run back into the village after the show. The journey from your hotel room to your seat at the festival takes around 25 to 30 minutes.
